Leadership they say means being a
model and this goes along with responsible behavior both in speeches and
actions. A good leader is an imitation of Christ, the greatest leader whoever
lived. Among other great attributes, Christ knew whenever a trap was set for
him in a bid to destroy him and his mission to rescue humanity on earth. One of
such traps was the question of paying taxes posed to him. After examining a
coin one of his enemies gave him on request, Christ asked “whose head is this?”
referring to the image on the coin and his detractor replied it belonged to
Caesar. “Then give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s”.
From the above analysis, it can
obviously be said without favor that a leader must be very close to the people.
Ngala Gerard’s presence in Nkambe has ignited lot excitements ever since he
made a generous donation of drugs to the Nkambe Divisional
Hospital . What people had
not been able to say in speeches to appreciate his innovative has been sang in
songs until recently that he was distinguished by DOMAJ as the All round Best
Rising Politician of Donga Mantung Division. In addition, to the fact that he
is a refined politician, he was also distinguished and coroneted by the Fon of Nkambe
recently as “Ta Nformi Education” for his timely support to schools. In his
capacity as the CEO of the organization for the Improvement of Standard of
living, Gerard Ngala has reached out to over 90 primary school of Nkambe
Central donating didactic materials. It is all
these great charitable gift of life that inspired HRH Fon IBRAHIM Jabfu Nfor to
honour him with one of the highest tradition titles in Mbum land. His
coronation to women and youths who support his endeavours is by merit. From
this stand point, one can assert without fear of contradiction that Gerard was
the man of March 8, 2012 in Nkambe as he dolled out over 400.000 to women
groups. The distribution of maize seeds to all farmers of Nkambe was also
another innovative action that remains unbeatable in the Division
As far back as 2011, he changed
the face of women day celebrations by offering two cows and women day rappers
to the women. This was actualized with the handing of one cow to the women in
Tabenken and another one to the Divisional Delegate of Social Affairs for the
women in Nkambe town.
The Philanthropist
Some two years ago, marked his
departure from the madding crowd when he donated drugs and medical equipment to
the Nkambe Divisional Hospital
estimated in tens of millions of FCFA. This gesture was also accompanied by
free consultation by the hospital staff that registered over 15.000 visitors in
two weeks. And through that gesture, he touched every home and helped to
salvage very critical situations throughout the division.
Ngala Gerard is also a sports
promoter and he does it with a lot of dexterity. Every year, he donates a
trophy for youths in Tabenken to exhibit their talents. Besides, he also
supported Nkambe FC with funds and sporting equipment. Apart, he recently launched
a football tournament in Nkambe to the tune of 1.5 million FCFA.
What makes Gerard a man of action
and not words is found in what he does. During the fundraising of the Nkambe
Cultural and Development Association where he was crown Ta Nformi, he donated
over a million FCFA as his personal support to foster development projects in
Nkambe village. If the Cameroon National Youth Council is still very vibrant in
Donga Mantung Division, the credit goes to him for always providing the
necessary support for youths to come together and reflect on key issues. It
should be noted that two months ago, he single-handedly sponsored the “Youth
Forum” that took place recently in Nkambe with over 2000 youths in attendance
and on February 11, Ngala Gerald also provided T-shirts to all the youth groups
in Nkambe Central. Others include the
support of prayer mats he donated to the Moslem communities of Nkambe town,
Binka and Wat. He also supported the grading of the road leading to Mbuwarr,
zinc to GHS Binka and the construction of community halls for women.
When an Indian philosopher, P R
Sarkar developed a new science of society that was neither solely past-oriented
nor present oriented, his goal was to embark on a balanced intuitional art
whereby silence voices are given room to be heard and out of sight structures
and ideas given the opportunity to be known. To him, there are five ways of
knowing a man of conscience and character: motivation, wisdom of suggestions,
perception, ability and love. In Nkambe Central, there is Gerard who is not
even a scientist but an upright person whose silent voice people are eager to
hear and listen. This young man is gradually making the masses to understand
that each village, town and generation has it own heroes and heroines who can
make things positive for all. In other words articulate an alternative
development standard in which the evolution of popular life is not to be
distorted or abused. His innovative ideas to foster development efforts in Mbum
land distinguishes him as those rare leaders that Prof. Terry Price, an
American development expert describes as “the makers of positive change”. What
is so interesting and fascinating about Gerard is that he is productive in
expedients, adroit, industrious and believes in joint-efforts. Women in Mbum land were right to tell him
that he is a good example of a good man while youths on the other hand continue
to look at him as a messiah. The Parliamentary Hopeful for Nkambe Central is a
devoted CPDM militant. He is actually being regarded as the only person to rescue
Nkambe youths who are in deer need of a new breed of politicians with character
and conscience.
